The Legion Times  September 2025 Volume 107, Issue 2

Troop 1096 has been very active in the community this month,  participating in several service events. The troop helped pack 1,500 backpacks for students, donated backpacks to Florence ISD Students, distributed shoes at a "StepN2 Success" event, and still managed to have a campout at Longhorn Council's Camp Tahuaya to work on merit badges. These activities highlight the troop's commitment to giving back to the community and helping those in need, while still learning outdoor skills.

On Saturday, August 2nd, Post 174 hosted a special luncheon at the Georgetown Country Club to celebrate its annual report on Post status. The event honored two newly installed officers, and the Commander recognized members of Troop 1096 for their continued support of the Post,  the scout hen gave Post members  a "Thank you for supporting scouting" patch.

At the recent Florence Elementary School ribbon-cutting ceremony, Boy Scout Troop 1096 proudly participated by raising the flags. They joined a large crowd of community members, including parents, teachers, and local officials, to celebrate the opening of the new school. The Scouts' role helped set a respectful and celebratory tone for the event.

Troop 1096 has been very active in their community this summer. The Scouts handed out water at the Round Rock 4th of July parade and learned about drug awareness from the local police department. They also traveled to Waco to explore the Mammoth National Monument and tour the Dr. Pepper Museum.

Troop 1096 attended Lost Pines Scout Ranch summer camp in Bastrop. They earned sixteen awards, including merit badges and a camping award for their troop. The Scouts participated in activities like archery, paddleboarding, and building a cardboard boat.

 Eagle Scout Corwin Diaz of Troop 1096 was named San Gabriel District Scout of the Year for 2025, recognized for his continued involvement in scouting and community service. He received the award at a district potluck and also presented a report at the Texas State Capitol.

San Gabriel District News 
January 26th, 2025

 

Corwin Diaz from Troop 1096 in Georgetown, Texas has been named the District Scout of the Year 2024. Corwin was also chosen to represent the Capital Area Council during the annual "Report to State" event.

Troop 1096 celebrated the Christmas Season by participating in the Christmas Stroll Parade with Pack 151 and American Legion Post 174, highlighting law enforcement, firefighters, nurses, doctors, service members, and veterans as superheroes.

Troop 1096 Scouts honored the First Responders who lost their lives in the line of duty during the World Trade Center Attacks by participating in Georgetown's Annual Memorial Stair Climb on the 23rd Anniversary of the tragic event.
